MAKAKATANA BAY LODGE - LAKE ST LUCIA, ZULULAND

Makakatana Bay Lodge is situated within KwaZulu-Natal's proclaimed iSimangaliso Wetland Park, the largest marine lake in Africa, and remains the only privately owned lodge in this pristine World Heritage Site. The setting is a magnificent combination of lake estuary, forest, dunes, wetlands, coral reef waters and savannah thornveld. Lake St Lucia supports 367 bird species, a concentration of birdlife matched by few places in Africa.

Five luxury rooms and a honeymoon suite with private boma are tucked away along timber walkways in dense sand forest. Tasteful furnishings create a restful fusion of Afro-Eastern design.
  
Safaris include afternoon and morning game drives into the wetlands. Full-day trips include beach safaris to the coastline for swimming and snorkeling, or a day safari to Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve to seek out the Big Five. A boat trip on Lake St Lucia is also a favourite activity, followed by a picnic lunch in the wetlands.
